A FINAL GOODBYE - THE JAGUAR XK...1996 -2014
Back on March 5th 1996 Jaguar announced the launch of a all new sports car at the Geneva Motor Show, they called it the XK8 (project X100). Following its huge success, we then saw in December 2005 the dawning of a brand new redesigned XK when the first X150 rolled off the Castle Bromwich factory production line.
Today, the 24th July 2014, the very last X150 is being built and being handed over to its new custodian - Jaguar Heritage. This is indeed a sad day for all XK owners and enthusiasts but we sincerely hope its not the last we've seen of the XK design.
So, as the last XK says farewell, today also becomes our day, today Jaguar transfers responsibility to the XKEC. We now become custodians of the XK heritage, acting as its voice and public face. Long live the XK.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE XK WORLD
June 2014 : JAGUAR ANNOUNCES "FINAL FIFTY LIMITED EDITION " DESIGN
Jaguar will wrap up their final 50 limited edition XK models this summer with a farewell XK branded as the "Final Fifty Limited Edition" cars. All will be sent abroad to the US market. They will carry the same specification as the current XKR model but with some added features that celebrate the history of Jaguar and the evolution of the brand's grand tourer image. A supercharged 510 bhp 5.0-litre V8 will accelerate the XK from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The car will come in Ultimate Black and will feature special trims both inside and out. A custom louvered hood will take attributes from the classic E-type, and the interior will be decked out in diamond sewn stitch pattern leather with suedecloth on the steering wheel. The XK will also have a unique badge sitting on the centre console and treadplates. Pricing for the last fifty has yet to be divulged but it is expected to be a premium higher than the XKR.
April 2014 : JAGUAR XK WINS ‘BEST PERFORMANCE CAR’ TITLE
On 23rd April 2014 the Jaguar XK picked up an award for best performance car at the Driver Power ceremony in Buckinghamshire after it was highly rated in the nation’s biggest motoring customer satisfaction survey.
Auto Express Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler said: “The Jaguar XK has once again proved to be a big hit among owners for its performance. This is proof the Jaguar XK is an excellent all-rounder, and a great car to live with day-to-day.”
The XK achieved superb ratings in a number of critical categories. It was rated highly for build and ride quality, won plaudits for ease of driving, and was commended for its handling characteristics – all helping to cement the XK’s position as one of the nation’s favourite sports cars.
March 2014: SAD NEWS AS JAGUAR ANNOUNCES THE XK IS TO BE DISCONTINUED
After nearly 19 years of being on sale, Jaguar has sadly announced that the production of the Jaguar XK will shut down in Summer 2014 to make way for some new Jaguar models. In their announcement, Jaguar called this decision part of a “wider strategic vision and product planning cycle”. The main reason has obviously been reflected by the introduction of the F-Type Roadster and Coupe, which are now displayed in showrooms across the world.
Jaguar have said that a replacement for the XK isn’t totally out of the question, but is simply a low priority right now. According to Jaguar a 2+2 sports car is still desirable but not before the foundations are right with a range of new core models such as the new XE which will be built at JLR’s Solihull plant in a brand-new facility, and will go on sale in early 2015.

The performance focused 510PS 5.0-litre supercharged XK Dynamic R offers Black Dynamic Pack, which incorporates XKR-S suspension and dynamics and a 10mm reduction in ride height, plus Speed Pack, which equips the car with an Aerodynamic Pack and an increased top speed of 174mph.
