24th March 2007The Great Paramount Shoot-outNo, not guns at dawn or even high noon, this was the XK shoot out using Paramount Performances new mega-wow rolling road.
It was Saturday 24th March 2007 and Paul Busby at Paramount Performance had very kindly invited XKEC members to come and try out their rolling road which had recently been delivered from Australia (via Singapore, but that’s another story).
Martin was going to be the driver of all the cars for the day as he knows what he is doing, (well at least we hoped he did as we let him rev our cars to almost un-heard of limits).
Next on the grid was a members ’97 4.0ltr XK8, which had a full Paramount SS exhaust system, new induction kit and had the ECU re-mapped. This should be interesting as it would be the first time the full combination of mods would come into play on the rolling road. I wasn’t to be disappointed as she gave out 282.6hp.
Eventually the other members turned up for their cars to be tested. Each car took their turn on the road with the final figures being put on the score board split between XK8’s and XKR’s.
As can be seen from the result scoreboard a Paramount XKR was the most powerful car on the day with a beautiful, if heavily modified Sherwood Green XK8 the most powerful NA car.
What we found most interesting was the guys from the Max Power brigade, whose cars were being checked and tested in another unit down the road, kept walking or cruising by to watch real grace and power at work. We certainly showed them what a real engine sounded like.
After the fun of seeing our cars thrashed on the rolling road it was off down to a local pub for a pint and a natter before going our separate ways home.
Finally I would like to thank Paul, Gerald and Martin and the rest of the Paramount staff for their hospitality, (especially the huge chocolate muffins and cookies), and for making it all very enjoyable. We’re already looking forward to the next shoot-out. |
