XK8 Balloon
How about this for one hell of an XK? Designed and made by Cameron Balloons of Bristol, this extraordinary XK is probably the biggest cat in existence (unless you know different off course)?
Measuring a staggering 37.2m long, 21m high and an equivalent power to weight ratio of more than 14,000 bhp per tonne this air balloon relies solely upon wind for its 13mph speed limit and direction.
With a 0.84mpg top speed and maximum altitude of 5000 ft the balloon’s special shape adds both weight and drag to its overall design.
Apparently a normal balloon can accelerate 1500ft a minute, however because of its unique shape, this balloon is only limited to around 800ft per minute.
Balancing the main structure are 16 polyester tapes which help support the weight of the wicker basket underneath. These are attached to the basket by 16 stainless steel wires.
Fuelled by natural propane, the fuel is relatively cheap, at 19p per litre, meaning a fill-up costing around £46.00. Better than your average XK that’s for sure.
So you want one? Well, list price comes in at an estimated £92,000. Not bad when you consider it would be quite unique. Just think of the fun you could have in that…it would certainly bring to an end the term traffic jam…!
